The Glorious Change

Becoming a Christian is much like the change of a caterpillar into a butterfly. When one is not saved he is like a caterpillar, crawling along the ground in the dirt and filth. No matter how much the caterpillar tries to reach for the glory of the sky he ends up back on the ground.

When a man becomes saved he is like the caterpillar when he enters the cocoon. When one becomes a Christian he spends the rest of his life changing, becoming more Christ like. While a Christian walks on the earth he will remain in that cocoon for no man completes his transformation into that Christ like being just as the caterpillar is never completely a butterfly until he emerges from the cocoon. Only when a man dies does he shed the cocoon and become perfect.

All during our lives we are changing like that caterpillar in his cocoon and there is the nature within us that resist the glorious change that is taking place. Even though we know that the change taking place in our lives is a very good thing, we are held back in our transformation by the lust of the world, that is, the beauty that we see with our eyes and the fear of letting go of our worldly possessions and pleasures. If we would look toward the beauty we can see with our heart we would strive to go forward in our change into perfection but what can be seen with the eyes is at many times stronger than what we see with our heart.
