Douglas Morrison, M.D.

Douglas P. Morrison, M.D. joined Ashland Orthopaedic Associates in 1982 as a general orthopedic surgeon with special interest in foot and ankle problems and in sports medicine.

Dr. Morrison graduated cum laude from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1969. He received a fellowship from the National Science Foundation and attended graduate school at the University of Texas in Austin.

In 1975 he received his medical degree from the University of California in San Francisco. He then completed his surgical internship in 1976 at Case Western Reserve and University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. His residency was completed in 1980 at the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Training Program.

Dr. Morrison holds medical licenses in Oregon and California. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons since 1983. He has served as Chief of Staff of Ashland Community Hospital.

Hal Townsend, M.D.

Hal Townsend, M.D. joined Ashland Orthopaedic Associates in 1990 as a general orthopedic surgeon with special training in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine.

Dr. Townsend graduated from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, with Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Biological Sciences in 1980. While completing his premedical education, he received a grant from the National Science Foundation and served for thirteen months as field engineer in atmospheric research at Palmer Station, Antarctica.

He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1984. He then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in 1989 at Stanford University Medical Center. In 1990 Dr. Townsend completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Inglewood, California.

Dr. Townsend holds medical licenses in Oregon and California. He is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery.

Glen O'Sullivan, M.D.

Glen O'Sullivan, M.D. joined Ashland Orthopaedic Associates in 1999 as a general orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery.

Born in the U.S.A., Dr. O'Sullivan graduated from England's Wimbledon College in 1979. He received his medical degree from St. Thomas' Medical School, London, England in 1984. His U.S. training included orthopedic residency at Stanford University Medical Center, which he completed in 1991. Dr. O'Sullivan completed his Spinal Surgery Fellowship Training in 1992 at Sir Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry, Shropshire, United Kingdom.

He served from 1992-1999 as co-director of spine service and from 1995-1999 as Chief of Trauma Service, Division of Orthopedic Surgery, Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California. From 1992-1999 he was also Director of Spine Service, Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital, California.

Dr. O'Sullivan holds medical licenses in Oregon and California. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgery.

Guenther Knoblich, M.D.

Guenther Knoblich, M.D. joined Ashland Orthopedic Associates in 2007 as a general orthopedic surgeon with special interests in knee and shoulder arthroscopy, sports medicine, minimally invasive joint replacement, and hand surgery.

Dr. Knoblich graduated from University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, with a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences in 1987. He received his medical degree from Stanford School of Medicine in 1995, where he completed his residency training in 2000. He comes to Ashland after being a senior partner in The Permanente Group. His experience also includes an AO fellowship in orthopedic trauma in Salzburg, Austria, work on the Navajo reservation, and volunteering and teaching orthopedics in Nepal, Vietnam, and Bhutan.

Dr. Knoblich holds medical licenses in Oregon and California. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery.

John Maurer, M.D.

John Maurer, M.D. established Ashland Orthopaedic Associates in 1976 as a general orthopedic surgeon with special interest and training in joint replacement and problems of the hand.

Dr. Maurer graduated from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1964. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee in 1967. Dr. Maurer served as a Naval flight surgeon with the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam, following which he completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery in 1974 at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, California.

Dr. Maurer is board certified in orthopedic surgery and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons since 1977.

During his tenure in Ashland, Dr. Maurer has served as Chief of Staff of Ashland Community Hospital and President of Jackson County Medical Society.
