We had our only real pub lunch across the street from Dirleton Castle, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and dark Scottish ale. Scott had a bowl of lentil soup, which he described with his new pet word, "Delicious!"
After lunch, we headed back to Edinburgh, and stumbled into Craigmillar Castle. I guess this is inside of Edinburgh city, although it seemed surrounded by countryside. This was another good castle, in fantastic shape. They still had doves in their dovecot! But by this time we'd almost had our fill of castles.
That's Edinburgh in the not-so-far distance, with the hill in Holyrood Park at the right.
I was posing the kids for this photo when Sean pointed and exclaimed, "Horses!"
He was right, they were.
Unfortunately, Nancy got locked in, and we had to leave her in Scotland. I hope she's OK.
