Hi,
My name is
Barrett James, Jr., an
aspiring author living
in North Carolina. Listed below are a few samples of my
work, first a few poems and songs that I wrote, including a somewhat
unflattering one that my sister Jessica
Natale and I composed about
Al Gore, then a
short synopsis and a sample of my novel, "THE LEGACY OF BALTHAZAR:
INHERITANCE". INHERITANCE
is a science fiction/fantasy novel set
in the near
future. Perhaps the simplest way to explain what this story
is
about is to tell you how it came to be written. The little boy
you see in the picture above isn't so little anymore; he's
fourteen. One day while on a long road trip, we got to discussing
the various types of novels we like to read, both of us being avid
readers. We talked about science fiction, such as Robert Heinlein
wrote, fantasy, such as written by Piers Anthony, spy thrillers in
the
style of Robert Ludlum,
and what I like to call wrong place wrong time
novels such as those written by Jack
DuBrul. Seriously, has any
character ever gotten himself in so much trouble as Phillip
Mercer? Anyway, after about an hour of this conversation, my son,
Trey, who knew that I had
written several articles for my company's
website, basically dared me to write a novel that contained elements of
all the different styles of writing that we liked. I gave is some
thought and decided, "Why not?". Along the way, my favorite
niece, Tiffany,
encouraged me to keep working on it from time to time. Thanks, ELF.
INHERITANCE is the result of
that dare, and my son loved it. So
much so in fact, that he told me I should get it published.
INHERITANCE is now available online at bookstores such as
Amazon and Authorhouse. So far, everyone that's read the
book has loved it.
If you've stumbled across this site by
