Interview with JM Reverie

So, who is your favorite character, Jane?

Kurama.

That did not take much thought, did it?

No, I've loved him since he first appeared. He has this presence on the screen. I think he seems sad a lot of the time. I like it better when he jokes around. I was touched by the way he was devoted to his mother and I liked the change in his ways since his Youko days.

Hmm. I thought you might have said Botan was your favorite.

Oh, I think she's cool. No doubt about that. I love all the YYH characters.

So, how did you get into YYH?

I didn't watch it on the Cartoon Network. I don't get that channel where I am. (But don't feel too sorry for me, I picked high speed internet over good cable. My choice.) I watched YYH subbed. If you don't know what that means, it's that I watched it in Japanese with English subtitles. (Whoever subbed it, I don't think they speak English very well… Some of the subtitles make no sense, so I just guess at what they're saying most of the time, LOL.) I heard some samples of their English voices on the official YYH website… Honestly, I like the Japanese voices better. It's been a while since I watched the whole series. Since I don't get much for TV, I sometimes watch a few episodes.

Do you like any other animes?

I think Inuyasha is cool. I haven't seen that one in English, yet, either. (Nor every episode, for that matter… It's still on the air over there I think.) Other than that, I don't watch any other anime. I don't have the time, or really the interest. Anime is an old interest. I watched these series years ago. However, for some reason I felt like it might be fun to write some fan fiction.

Why?

Someday, I'm going to write a novel. I know many people say this, but I really believe that I will. Fan fiction can be good practice. I do write things other than fan fiction, though.

So, you are going to write a romance fic for your next one?

I think so. Honestly, while I may be good at expressing character's feelings, I think to write a romance will be difficult. I'm better at action/adventure, mystery/suspense, that type of thing. Maybe I'll chicken out and just write a fic about Yukina or Kurama instead….

Why is romance so hard for you?

Well, I tend to feel more comfortable writing what I know. I'm a bit green when it comes to that stuff. I've never even had a date on Valentines Day. (No, I'm no dog. People tell me I'm beautiful a lot. I don't really see it, but sure, why not, whatever…) I had one really good relationship (but very brief) a long, long time ago, but my mother strongly didn't approve. So, that was that. (She hates all my friends, too. LOL. But I've learned since then.) We'll just have to see what happens when I go to write the fic. Do not be surprised if I change my mind and wind up writing something else.

So why bother with the romance fic at all?

Oh, for the challenge of it.

Who is your favorite author?

In fan fiction? Myself, of course. :p Ok. I'm joking with you. I don't have a favorite fan fiction author. If I had to choose, maybe Krista Perry. I really like her Utukki comic she's been working on with her friend Michelle Thatcher, and her fan fiction is awesome, too. Hers was some of the first fan fiction I've ever read.

In books, I don't have a favorite, either. But I'm very widely read. I think that is how I survived childhood/adolescence, always having my head in the clouds if not with my friends… Some of my favorites are Stephen King, Roger Zelazny, RA Salvatore, Charles de Lint, and Harlan Ellison.

Well, thank you for the interview, Jane and good luck with your writing.

You're welcome. Thanks for interviewing.
