Where is the project at?

There are a lot of pictures so please be patient.

Before

One of the first things that I did to my car was install a stut tower brace. My brother has a Sunbird LE and I noticed that his car came factory with one installed. So I went to the junkyard and bought one for five bucks. The bar was couple inches shorter than what I needed. I ground the welds down on the ends of the bar and extended it. It took a bit of modifying but I think it turned out really well. I didn't have a camera to take pictures during, so all I have is after.

I have been working and planning this project for about 5 months now. I have been collecting parts and have finally enough parts to start.

I bought an 89 daytona shelby that I am using for the brake swap and sway bar swaps. My ES has smaller front disc brakes compared to the shelby's.The ES has rear drum brakes and the shelby has 11.2" rear disc brakes with Kelsey-Hayes two pin calipers. The shelby also has thicker front and rear sway bars. The reason I am using 89 Shelby parts is there are not alot of junk daytonas around me, expecially newer ones. I have never found a daytona in a junkyard around me newer then 90 and no shelbys. That's why I drove to Duluth for my shelby. Now that I have my 92 I will use some parts off of it.

So far I have taken the rear end of the shelby apart and sandblasted the main piece and the caliper mounting brackets. I welded a piece of steel, 2" wide, 3/16" thick and 52 1/2" long on to the U-channel to box it in, which will make it much stronger and increase the rolling resistance of the sway bar. That is what I am doing in the pictures below. It took me 2 hours to weld that piece. I stitch welded it so I wouldn't heat it too much and warp it.

**(EDIT)6-24-04**

I also designed my own panhard bar or track bar. The first bar I made out of the 3 point link worked, but it was noisey. So I made a new high quaility one, made from 1" thick walled tube and quaility ball ends. Pictured are the new bar, old bar, and the original bar from the car.
