I started writing while I was in the US Navy but never really got anywhere. By the time I left active duty I had wrote a total of 5 chapters consisting of about 20000 words. In the civilian world I didn't write much the first year, then the story came back to me and I started again. I did not spend much time on it but enough to make my wife tell me to see if I could enter a contest for writing. I found National Novel Writing Month and signed up. I still hadn't finished chapter 5 of what I wrote in the Navy, just lots of reviewing and editing. I took a character from that book and wrote my first NaNo book as his background. After NaNo 2006 I took my book, The Quiet Hour, and spell checked it, and did a little editing. I had a few friends read it also and got some pointers on what to edit. I was told about for self-publishing. I jumped in and put my book on LuLu and got a free copy because it was a NaNo novel. The first was ok but I did not like the way the book looked inside and since I did the editing I was to blame. I started to fix what I did not like and found a number of errors I had missed the first time. I fixed them and did a revision to the published book and made it available to the public. A week later I was asked if it would be available in hardback by relatives. So I made a conversion and now hardback, paperback, and download are available. I have since began to write book two, The Making of a Bow, the one I started in the Navy, but after NaNo I seen several things about the old book that were not good, now its all getting rewritten. At this time I plan to do book three for NaNo 2007.
