VERSE OF THE DAY

READ THE BIBLE IN A YEAR
Straight Through Chronological

With this new year remember, Jesus died for your sins, not so you could live on Earth, but so you could live in Heaven.

It comes to mind that few people, Christian or not, know what Jesus was really here for. Most Christians will tell you he came to take away the sin of the world by dying on the cross. Many will quote John 3:16 which brings me to this new message. What is love on a biblical level?

Jesus was a teacher, preacher and prophet before he was our savior. When questioned about love, Jesus said, "Greater love have no man then one who lays down his life for a friend." John 15:13. Mark 12:28-31 Jesus was asked which commandment was the greatest. His response, which you can read for yourself by the links, brought the question of "Who is my neighbor?" Luke 10:29

Jesus replied with the parable of the Good Samaritan. At the end of the parable he asked the questioner who was a neighbor. Luke 10:36-37.

Matt. 7:21 says not everyone who calls to Jesus will enter heaven. To enter heaven you must do the will of the father and creator. After reading to this point what do you think the father's will is?

I believe the will of the father is for us to do anything, give anything we can to anyone we encounter in need. Ask for and expect nothing in return. Be a servant to the world in honor of the Creator and his son who died for us.

As for the preachers claiming the world is going to end, don't be deceived. Luke 21:8, Matt 24:24. No one but the father knows the date and time of the second coming. Matt 24:36. To hear someone say the end of the world will take place on a certain day and time is like hearing a meteorologist say that at 2:15 Monday afternoon the first drop of rain will hit the sidewalk in front of your house. Matt 24:30-33. Although verse 31 clearly states what most believe to be the rapture, remember that it comes after Matt 24:29, 'after the tribulation of those days' The verses are not numbered so we can take them out of order to make us feel better. If we are alive when he returns, we will have to go through hell-on-earth to see him. Rev 6:12-16

So, until the return of Jesus please walk with love, care and compassion for all you see.

James 1:22 (ESV) But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

I was told that some people know a lot about Jesus, they read the bible and can quote all the facts in the blink of an eye, but don't really know him. Like how you know all about your favorite sports star, movie star or music singer/band, but you don't hang out with that person, therefore you don't really know them. Please start hanging out with Jesus. Greet him as a friend, talk to him as if he is right there next to you, because he is even if you can't see him.

The bible tells us to study every day, Joshua 1:8; Acts 17: 11; 2 Peter 1:1-2,12. To do this best you first should read each day a chapter or 2. It works best for me if I ask God to guild me to a passage, then flip to a random page in the bible. I look at the titles on that page and if none stand out to me I go with the first full paragraph and read the entire page. I have always found an answer to a question that I have about this world and God's plan by doing so. If you are reading a book or watching a TV show that quotes verses from the bible to prove their theory, you should look in the bible at those verses. First to be sure they didn't change words around, although they could have used a different translation then you're used to using. Second you need to read the paragraph around the verses quoted. Very few verses can stand alone, and when the full paragraph is read you may get a different meaning for the verse or verses in question. Third, as James says, do what the word tells you to do instead of just reading it and ignoring it the rest of your day.

It is my belief that the Word of God encompasses more scripture than we have in our bible today. I also understand that not all scriptures found are true. Satan is the father of all lies, but I do feel there is a grain of truth in each lie. With the proper study of the bible along with a good walk with God in your daily life, you can learn to spot more lies for what they are and that single grain of truth that doesn't break scripture will fill you with warmth.

PARABLE

THE WAREHOUSE

There is a dark warehouse where the employees are required to carry lamps. These lamps burn oil, flashlights don't work as well for the job that needs to be done. Many have adjusted to the dark and don't care that their lamp doesn't work. They have plenty of oil, just their flame has gone out. A few people have a working lamp and learn that if they burn their flame too bright they will run out of oil too early in for their shift. They go about showing others their light and taking them to the one place in the warehouse that their lamps can be lit. Some feel they need to hide their light from those who like the dark and they close the shade on their light. At first the light still comes through the seams but eventually their light goes out from lack of air. Having been in the light they are blind and stumble about the warehouse until someone else who has a light is able to help them relite their lamp. Many have learned to go out in pairs because those who love the dark try to blow the lamps out and if their is two people with lamps they won't go dark. When their oil runs out they must return to the source of the light and remain until morning. Those who don't lite their lamps remain in the warehouse until dawn and then are blinded in the sunlight, while those who have been in the light the whole night remain seeing.
