I belong to a few astronomy groups, and have friends in many more. Astronomy groups are great places to learn from more experienced people. Groups can also pool resources and thereby afford members access to observing sites, instrumentation, and other material.

Northern Cross Science Foundation: Local astronomy club based in Cedarburg, WI.

Astronomical League: Confederation of astronomy clubs and members at large. The AL is the purveyor of famous observing clubs certificates such as Messier, Herschel and Binocular Deep-Sky.

International Dark-Sky Association: The one organization in the world fighting light pollution!
