Newville, Wisconsin is located near Lake Koshkonong, where it narrows back down into the Rock River. Lake Koshkonong
is one of the largest inland lakes in the state, with a surface area of 10,460 acres.
It is very shallow, with a maximum depth of only 7 feet. The area's claim to
fame happened in 1832 when a Sauk chief named Black Hawk pas
sed through the area
as he fled from the United States army.
If you like nature, Newville is a great place to live. The Rock River creates a natural flyway for many kinds of migratory birds.
Geese, ducks, cranes, eagles, pelicans, and a great variety of songbirds and
shore birds live in and pass through the area. Lake Koshkonong is also a popular fishing destination. Fish species found in the lake include various panfish, catfish, carp, walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, muskie and northern pike.
Another great reason to live in and visit Newville is the food. Although it is
really just a tiny, unincorporated village, it is located near Lake Koshkonong
and an interstate highway exit. There are many fine bars and restaurants in the
area including
Emigail's Roadhouse, The Wisconsin
Cheese And Wine Chalet, The Lake House Inn,
Anchor Inn, The Countryside Inn, Fins Bar and Grill, Deb's Squeeze Inn, Shore
Thing Pizza, McDonald's, Subway and the World's Largest Culver's.
