Meet Mrs. Abney!

My name is Karla Abney. I have been teaching for 17 years, 16 of which have been here at Bonne Ecole Elementary. I have taught kindergarten for the past 10 years, first grade for 6 years before that, and taught third grade during my first year of teaching. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Orleans. I also have a minor in early childhood.

I have been married for 18 years and have two children, Wesley and Emily.

We have two dogs, Buddy and Millie, and
two cats, Newnan and Tiger Baby.

I enjoy being outside, swimming, going to the beach, traveling and watching sitcoms and movies.

I have lived in Slidell my whole life. My mom taught at Bonne Ecole and I attended Bonne Ecole as a student. Both of my children attended Bonne Ecole. My first grade teacher also taught my son Wesley in first grade.

Kindergarten is more than finger-painting and Play-Doh. Since I taught first grade for 6 years prior to moving to Kindergarten, I challenge my students academically. Most of them will be reading at the end of the school year.
