Lake Ida Summary July 9, 2005 Here’s a novel idea. Let’s all drive 90 miles to fish a tournament in a lake filled with 13”-14” fish (for most of you). Ida did not live up to its billing as a big fish lake. Two of the top three finishers gave me enough bullshit about what they did to catch fish, I believe boots should come with this job. The third, Charles P., was with me so you’ll get the straight scoop on him. First place went to the semi-good Steinbauer, Nate, with six fish at 14-12.. His fish were caught in 8’-16’ feet of water on tubes and Yamamoto Fat Ika’s in the wind, all legitimately on Dennis’ spots. The fish he kept were caught on a “Nate rig”, a Texas rigged Senko, I speculate. Second went to the other Steinbauer, Chas, with a bag weighing 13-7 including the tournament lunker which weighed 4-0. Chuck’s three biggest fish came from a dock, a tree, and reeds, respectively, all on jigs. He culled up twice in the last ten minutes on the break out from the access on a Gopher and garlic, hereafter to be known as the “Beck rig”. By the way, the man is a machine on docks. Third went to Bill Ludenia with a bag weighing 11-10. Who knows what the hell he was doing. Something about garlic in the slop, garlic on the breaks, and a couple of fish on the ever-popular “flats”. All fish were caught on Adam H.’s spots. Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as a “Bill rig”. Nothing I can put in print anyway. Nice job guys. Interesting that two of the top three placers had never seen the lake before. Must have had good guides. Inept as fishermen but good guides. _____________ \ / \ / \ /\ / SHORTS ! \ / \ / \ / \ / \/ \/ Our “Dolt-of-the-Year” contest took an interesting turn. Nominees from the Ida tournament could be Ziebell who backed his trailer into traffic at the access and clipped a passing trailer. It could be Barnum who was driving the aforementioned trailer and obviously not paying attention. I mean, everybody knows when Mick gets behind the wheel, get the hell out of the way. Or it could be Ghee who has them both insured. For those of you who did not fish and for those of you that fished but chose not to stay and ended up eating mystery sausages made from pigs’ snouts and a-holes, you missed a lovely dinner of all-you-could-eat prime and burgers done the way you like. Best of all was the great service and the incredibly crisp hash browns. Easily the best tasting and crispiest hash browns I’ve ever had. Does anybody even play the zither anymore? Who do you think was the best bad guy in Popeye cartoons, Bluto or Brutus? Who was first? Dave Mahady jumped into our big bass pot so a 5-8 on Cedar will now be worth $480. Remember, beauty is only a light switch away. See you on Cedar. Have a happy day. |
