Here is the Preamble we use;

CQ CQ CQ to the Anderson 2 meter net,
Your net control tonight is YOUR CALL, NAME, LOCATION.
This net is sponsored by the Anderson Radio Club and is called nightly at 8:30 pm. For information about the club or the net please go to our website @ www.andersonradioclub.us. Are there any stations holding traffic or announcements for the net Please Call YOUR CALL.

Pause and listen if there is traffic or announcements. IF there is traffic get the station to pass traffic to whoever wants to take it. Usually there is only net reports that need to be passed to me.

This is a directed net, please direct all comments and any traffic through net control. When you check in call net control and release the PTT button. Listen to ensure no-one else has called at the same time as you have, then proceed with you call sign, name, location, and wheter you will be staying for rag chew. We encourage everyone to stay for the formal portion of the net should we have traffic for your area.

We will take check ins now. Please call YOUR CALL.

Closing;

I would like to thank each of the TOTAL CHECKINS stations that checked in with me tonight. I hope each of you will return for this net, Which is held nightly at 8:30 pm.
73 , good evening, God Bless,
This is YOUR CALL returning the repeater back to normal use.

Net procedures - This is the general procedure for local 2-meter nets. Each net will have its own individual procedures. The net control station will advise specific instructions to the net. If you have any questions, tell the net control station you have a question as you check in. When the time arises, the net control station will advise you to proceed with your question.

  1. The net control station will call CQ to the net. This calls any and all amateurs within range of the repeater.

  2. The net control station will identify the net, their callsign, and their location.

  3. The net control station will call for any high-priority traffic or announcements for the net. Unless you have high-priority information for the net, sit calmly and quietly through this portion of the net. (See below if you do not know what priority your traffic is).

  4. The net control station will announce the opening of the roll-call portion of the net. This is normally in some sort of alphabetical categorization, beginning with the first letter of your callsign's suffix. For example, let's use the hypothetical callsign AB4CD. "AB", in this case is the prefix, and "CD" is the suffix. Someone checking into the net using the callsign AB4CD would check into the grouping containing the suffix C (phonetic: Charlie).

  5. When checking into roll-call, call net control's callsign. Release the push-to-talk button on your mic and listen to see if anyone else is attempting to check in simultaneously. Then, SLOWLY, send your callsign, your name, your location, and indicate whether you have traffic for the net or if you will remain on the net for the roundtable, or "rag chew". It is common courtesy to send your callsign phonetically as well as alphanumerically, if possible.

  6. If the net control station misidentifies you or incorrectly recognizes any portion of your information, you may request a "recheck". This is done by simply keying the mic and saying the word "recheck". Net Control will recognize your recheck and will ask that you send corrections.

  7. After you've checked into the net, it is requested that you remain with your radio until the end of the roll call portion of the net, in the event that you may be needed to pass traffic for another operator. If you need to be excused before the end of roll call, recheck with Net Control and ask to be excused formally.

  8. Once the Net Control station has established that there are no more check-ins for the net, they will close the roll-call or the "formal" portion of the net.

  9. Net Control will advise (normally at this time) when stations wishing to secure may do so. This basically means that if you choose to turn off your radio or walk away, you can at any time.

  10. The net control station will move the net into the Roundtable or Rag-Chew portion. The stations indicating the desire to remain for rag-chew will be called on to share their information with the net in the order they volunteered. Rag-chew can be anything from discussing the kind of weather you experienced, to what kind of day you had. There are few stipulations as to what kind of conversation that can be conducted, but please remember that Amateur Radio is a very publicly accessible medium, and that others may be listening in. We do ask that while using our repeaters that you gauge your conduct appropriately, and respond to any and all of Net Control's instructions.

  11. Net Control will pause regularly between rag-chew conversations to call for additional check-ins.

  12. Once the list of Rag-chew participants has been exhausted, and there are no more check-ins, the net control station will secure the net and will return the repeater to normal amateur use
