Nordic Drinking Vessels in Wood
North House Folk School
March 2-6, 2002
Phil Odden, Instructor
Six of us worked with Phil Odden for a week to produce many original caarved Norwegian "ale hens." The cups are make from basswood and painted with acrylics. The vessels were used traditionally in Norway to drink home-made beer at special occasions such as weddings, baptisms, funerals, etc. We were fortunate to intersect with other North House classes making bread and beer, providing a great opportunity Sunday evening to put some of the ale hens to use, along with home-made pizza baked in the NH outdoor brick oven. Below are some pictures from the week.
