There are a large number of awards given out for board games each year.  Most of them can be found on the excellent Game Awards page.  The two that are listed above are major awards in the field of designer games.  They are:

The Spiel des Jahres, an award given yearly in Germany by game critics.  This is an award for the best family strategy game.

The Deutscher SpielPreis, another German award given out by hobbyists.  Because this honor is awarded by players rather than by critics, it typically goes to deeper strategy games.
