1797, 15 January [reference stardate -3/9701.15]
War breaks out between Dinalla and Timuraasz over the resources necessary
for space travel. The war soon spreads to other places on Romulus, as no
city-state dares allow others to gather the necessary resources for space
travel, fearing the loss of military advantage. Up to this time, Dinalla
and Timuraasz are the only two city-states that had managed to send anyone
into space, though several others, most notably Labasasz and Caranam, are
close to accomplishing space ventures [FASA].

President George Washington's term of office ends. This fact,
among many others, is just a tiny portion of data stored in the
"Enterprise's" computer banks in 2248, and will be scanned by the
Talosians [Me].

1800, 12 January [reference stardate -2/0001.12]
The treaty of Kanassarum is signed on Romulus, the warring factions
having exhausted themselves and their meager resources by this time.
The war produces no real winners [FASA].

The Klingons develop the S-2 graph unit FTL propulsion system [LOR].

Wu is born on Omega IV [OG].

August [reference stardate -2/0008]
On Romulus, at a meeting of the elder statesmen of all the city-states,
the great scientist/statesman L'Deus of Portora proposes that the city-
states band together to reach Remus. He shows without a doubt that
limited resources would prevent any one city-state from accomplishing the
goal on its own. He uses the old legends and combines it with the example
of the past and the realities of the present to make his appeal. After
seven months of effort, he gives up in disgust. The meeting breaks up
without the unification needed [FASA].

On Omega IV it is the Year of the Red Bird (plus or minus 5 years) [OG].

1802, 26 February
Victor Hugo, a French novelist and poet, is born on Earth. He will
write the novel 'Les Miserables' which will be one of Michael
Eddington's favorites in the 24th Century. His equally famous work
'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' will be familiar to Dax [DSN 511].

21 April [reference stardate -2/0204.21]
On Romulus, Dinalla attempts a launch to establish a semi-permanent space
station. The vessel, using inferior fuel, explodes on the pad [FASA].

October [reference stardate -2/0210]
The Second Conference of Portora is held, with representatives from
all city-states. L'Deus refuses to lead the conference or to even
participate except for answering questions. The conference lasts four
months. Seeing that alone their city-states could not reach the
stars, the representatives agree to join together [FASA].

1803, 10 February [reference stardate -2/0302.10]
The D'Vatta ("Great Paper") is signed, unifying all city-states on
Romulus into one organization, the Bresasam Rom'lnz ("Romulan
Confederation"). The debates over the form the government will take
will last less than four months [FASA].

20 June [reference stardate -2/0306.20]
L'Deus is elected the first Emperor of the Romulan Confederation by
the Imperial Senate after the Senators convince him that the position
is part of his destiny [FASA].

29 December [reference stardate -2/0312.29]
Because of its location central to needed resources, Kanassarum, on
Romulus, is chosen as the site of the new united space effort [FASA].

1804, 03 February
Lt. Stephen Decatur, Jr. commands the U.S.S. "Enterprise" sea-going
schooner. This ship's figurehead will end up displayed on the rec
deck of the starship "Enterprise" more than four centuries later in
2264. The retired Captain Kirk, in 2292, will build a model of this ship
in his San Francisco residence [TOS #13, TOS #74].

10 May [reference stardate -2/0405.10]
The first (Romulan) Confederation manned flight is launched [FASA].

June [reference stardate -2/0406]
The construction of a large, Romulan orbital station begins during this
period of many manned flights [FASA].

1805
On Earth, one of Jean-Luc Picard's ancestors participates in the Battle of
Trafalgar. One of the most celebrated naval engagements in European
history, Picard will refer to it on several occassions [ST VII, TNG 144,
TNG 158].

1809
Abraham Lincoln is born on Earth, the future 16th president of the United
States of America. In the 23rd Century, Lincoln will be one of James
Kirk's heroes. The Excalbians will re-create a duplicate of Lincoln in
2263 for their study of Human concepts [TOS #10, SC].

The American writer Edgar Allan Poe is born on Earth. He will write the
popular Terran poem 'The Raven'--which Charles Evans will force Spock to
partially quote in 2260. In 2369, Captain Picard will intrigue the
"Enterprise" officers with this writer and inspire several to read his
works. Lt. Worf will consider using Poe's literature as bedtime story
reading for his son, Alexander [CX, TNG #35].

The English evolutionist Charles Darwin is born on Earth. The genetic
research station on Gagarin IV will be named after him and at least one
scout class [TNG 133, SfP].

1811
On Omega IV it is the Year of the Red Bird (plus or minus 5 years) [OG].

1812
Charles Dickens, a novelist, is born on Earth. He will write the novel
'A Tale of Two Cities,' a much later edition of which will be presented
to Admiral Kirk by Captain Spock as a birthday present in the 23rd
Century. He will also write 'A Christmas Carol' which, in 2367, will be
acted out by Lt. Commander Data on the "Enterprise's" holodeck [ST II,
TNG 187].

During the War of 1812, the sea-going "Enterprise" captures a British brig
[GN 3].

June [reference stardate -2/1206]
A large orbital space station is established to be used as a platform
for the Remus effort [FASA].

20 October [reference stardate -2/1210.20]
The first unmanned Romulan probe lands on Remus [FASA].

1813
Lt. William Burrows commands the seagoing vessel U.S.S. "Enterprise,"
the United States schooner [TOS #6].

1815 [Y -300]
The Krebiz Capitalist Alliance (KCA) Star Fleet, a small power in the
Neutral Zone between the Klingon Empire and the Kzinti, launches the
"Clipper" class frigate, "Pincer" class destroyer, "Mandible" class light
cruiser, "Claw" class heavy cruiser, and the "Kraken" class dreadnought
[SFB].

1816
Captain Janeway's hardcopy novel read in 2374 is set during this year
during the British Regency. A comedy of manners period piece, it will
be written a century later [V #15].
