An English poet, he will write 'Sea
Fever,' a favorite poem of James Kirk's
in the 23rd Century and
Picard's in the 24th. Quark will
misquote it in 2372 [TOS #10, UC, ST V,
ST VII, DSN 480].
'H.M.S. Pinafore,' a comic savoy opera
is written by Gilbert and Sullivan
on Earth. In 2375, Captain Picard
will use a song from this work to
ensnare the malfunctioning Lt. Commander
Data [ST IX].
1879
Albert Einstein is born on Earth.
One of the greatest physicists of
Humanity, responsible for Relativity,
James Kirk will rank him with Dr.
Richard Daystrom in the 2260s. A
timeslip cruiser class in the 2270s will
be named Einstein in his honor.
In the 2370s, aboard the "Galaxy" class
"Enterprise," Einstein will be generated
in holodeck programs by Lt.
(j.g.) Barclay and Lt. Commander Data
[UC, TNG 193, TNG 256].
Gilbert and Sullivan's 'The Pirates of
Penzance' operetta is published
on Earth. In 2368, Dr. Crusher will
stage a production of the play
aboard the "Enterprise" [TNG 205].
1881, 26 October
In Tombstone, Arizona on Earth at 5 P.M.
the gunfight at the O.K. Corral
between the Clantons and Earps takes place.
Nearly four centuries later
in 2263 this famous gunfight will serve
as a template for the execution of
an "Enterprise" landing party making first
contact with the Melkots [SG].
Note that this is also the era during which
Alexander Rozhenko's
and Reginald Barclay's holodeck program
of stardate 46271 is set,
though the locale is Deadwood, South Dakota
[TNG 234].
1883
The Orient Express, Europe's first transcontinental
express begins
transit from Paris, France to Constantinople,
Turkey. In 2370, Dr.
Beverly Crusher will re-create the Orient
Express on an
"Enterprise" holodeck [TNG 275].
1885
D.H. Lawrence is born. He will write
'Whales Weep Not' later quoted by
Captain Scott and acknowledged by Dr.
Taylor [ST IV].
1887
Harry S. Truman, U.S. president, is born
on Earth. In 1947 he will be
informed of Quark's arrival in Roswell,
New Mexico [DSN 480].
According to Dr. McCoy, Admiral Kirk's
eyeglasses date from this era.
By 2287, few of them have the lenses intact
[ST II].

The Redjac entity kills six women in London,
England on old Earth [WF].

Adolf Hitler, dictator, is born on Earth.
In an alternate timeline he
will conquer Earth. In our timeline,
Garth of Izar will cite him.
Captain Kirk will later quote Hitler [CEF,
WGD, ST VI].

In the Gamma Quadrant, the planet Meridian
dimensionally shifts back into
normal space for a brief period of time
[DSN 454].
1893, 13 August
Lt. Commander Data, transported by a temporal
disturbance on Devidia II
(Marrab sector) from 2368, finds himself
in San Francisco, Earth where he
meets Mark Twain and Madame Guinan [TNG
226].
An away team, originating from the same
future era, rescues Data and
ends the invasion of shape-shifter beings.
Samuel Clemens is briefly
transported aboard the "Enterprise" in
the future and then returned to
this time [TNG 227].
Note that this is chronologically the first
meeting between Guinan and
Picard. However, from Picard's perspective,
it will not occur until
sometime in the early 24th Century when
Picard is commanding the
U.S.S. "Stargazer" (NCC-2893) with Commander
Merritt as First Officer.
Guinan will be tending bar on Jeparly Station
when Captain Picard is
abducted by an inhabitant of Tewa III
whom he blames for indirectly
causing the death of his family.
Guinan saves the captain's life [SNW].
Big Eva Cunningham is born on Earth (as
per Captain Sisko's visions of
2374) [DSN 538].
Kling takes control of a nation on Kazh.
Life becomes good for his
people under him. With this success,
a new emotion begins to appear
on Kazh. For the first time in their
history, men feel pride in them-
selves, their accomplishments, their people,
and most especially in their
leader. And so, to show that pride
and to prove themselves members
of a mighty race, they take the name Klingons
[TBoT #1].

A riot erupts at the Paris Opera house.
In 2367, it will be re-created in
an "Enterprise" holodeck for the enjoyment
of the crew [GN 15].

Amelia Earhart, Terran aviator, is born
on Earth. In 1937 she will be
abducted by the Breyori [V 120].
Bertolt Brecht, German expressionist dramatist,

the government which will last through
the 23rd Century [FASA].
A captured weaponeer of a conquered nation
offers to make Kling a bargain:
a certain secret in exchange for wealth
and power. Kling readily agrees
and in short order possesses the secrets
of atomic energy and the atomic
bomb which will enable him to rule the
entire planet Kazh [TBoT #1].
On Earth, James Hilton, novelist, is born.
He will write 'Lost Horizon,'
a novel which will eventually be noted
by Captain James Kirk [PSy].
L. Frank Baum writes the novel 'The Wonderful
Wizard of Oz.' A motion
picture will follow in 1939. It
will be a favorite of Yeoman Minnie
Moskowitz aboard the "Enterprise" in the
2260s and will re-create
its characters on the Amusement Park Planet.
In 2365, Data will hum a
song from this film. In 2367, Dr.
Crusher will quote from it. The
computer-generated clown from the Delta
Quadrant's hibernation pods will
also reference this work [SNW, TNG 131,
