the Rigel Colonies (Rigel II and IV) [STM].

The U.F.P. border is redefined between Rigel, Deneb, and Antares; 480
parsecs in diameter [STM].

Sardix of Vulcan enters office as the Federation Council President
[FASA].

After careful review and minor changes, the Federation Council approves of
the plan to erect a Star Fleet Academy in San Francisco, California on
Earth. Construction begins immediately [SASH].

Rampart (Rho Ophiuchi) is colonized by Earth [TNG #11].

The Chyrellkans make their first landing on their sisterworld Vancadia
[TOS #55].

The Ab'brax tradition is phased out on Betazed [TNG #18].

As an outgrowth of the Romulan War, a huge prototype Federation battle-
cruiser is completed and undergoes testing. It fails to meet the require-
ments and is put in storage. As a result, the "Horizon" and "Marshall"
classes enjoy an extended commissioned life. The prototype vessel had a
maximum warp of 3.9, a proposed complement of 375, and an impressive ord-
nance: 8 lasers, 8 particle beam cannons, and 16 fusion torpedo tubes.
This failed class bears a resemblance to the much later "Costello" class
tug which will be assigned to various corps of engineer bases, used for
space salvage operations within the U.F.P. treaty space, although it
carries minimal defences and low output phasers, and measures a third the
length. The "Costello" class features two distinct dual fusion reactors,
tractor beam emitter booms, and Omnidyne C570 warp nacelles [SFC, STD2].

Starbase 12 is commanded by Admiral Uttan Narsu [TNG 215].

The "Daedalus" (NCC-170) class exploration craft are 104 meter long,
warp 3.7 capacity starships. The class will total 20 vessels (NCC-170-
NCC-189), each armed with 4 laser emplacements and carrying complements
of 120. The same general design will be carried over to the
"Horizon" and "Archon" classes in the late 22nd Century [JDCP].

The U.S.S. "Essex" (NCC-173), "Daedalus" class starship, commanded by
Captain Bryce Shumar, is lost with all hands at Mab-Bu VI's moon
[TNG 215].

The Bekeem colony ship is completed [TNG #14].

At age 7, Sarek is traditionally bonded to T'Rea [GN 16].

In the Pyrimilis Star System, two inhabited planets are found by the
U.F.P. in the same orbit, on a collision course. Discovered by Captain
Carlos Dos Passos of the U.S.S. "Gemini" ("Libran" class), they are
powerless to interfere with the religion of the union of the two worlds
existing on both planets [SFC].

HiBeam Energies, Ltd. is founded in Luna City, Luna. They will design
the first phaser weapons systems [FASA].

The San Francisco, Star Fleet Academy campus is completed and immediately
begins accepting students this year. The initial program will remain
unchanged until Star Fleet Command's White Paper in 2180 [SASH].

The Tseetsk encounter the Human colony of Koban's ancestors on Foothold
(Joost-klaara) and enslave them, using the colony as a breeding planet
[TNG #21].

Cymris Darthanian, a Yoon, is born on Tau Lyra III (Yoondri) [TOS #71].

The U.S.S. "Almeida" (GCC-120) heavy cruiser/freighter is commissioned.
A dozen ships of this class (GCC-120-GCC-131), with crews of 93 and laser
bank weaponry, are built [HCFP].

The K-117 light (warp-driven) transport shuttle is one of the fastest
interatmospheric shuttles in Star Fleet. A century later one of these
shuttles will be employed as a portable drilling rig by the Federation
Geological Survey. Its heavily shielded warp core provides a safe
power source, even with personnel nearby on the ground [TOS #68].

The Arretians experience their first contact with life more advanced than
a microbe. A Krebiz Capitalist Alliance exploration vessel takes up orbit
around Arretia and initiates communication. Naturally, this first contact
is with Arretian AIs, and the Krebiz crew is filled with both envy of and
an odd sense of distaste for Arretian society. The Krebiz captain, a
rugged individualist and believer in the living spirit, is one of the most
affected and disturbed. During the first weeks of contact, the Krebiz
are approached by a small group of Arretians concerned about the machine-
majority and their resultant political control. This group of disaffected
Arretians, founded by one of the last political parties on the planet,
wishes to return to the days when media manipulation could influence the
outcome of a referendum. The Krebiz captain hears the pleas of this tiny
minority and takes it upon himself to "free" the Arretians from what he
perceives as dangerously controlled, pampered, and unfulfilling lives.
The Krebiz, using their superior weapons technology, and with no space-
faring opposition, attacks several central planetary computer nodes with
both commando raids and planetary bombardment. The AIs immediately react
by taking over the relatively unsophisticated computers of the Krebiz
ship, disabling it and making the efforts of those Krebiz involved in
ground actions inconsequential to the eventual outcome of the very brief
conflict. The disaffected Arretians who gave impetus to this action are
horrified by the violence and most of them end up being instrumental in
the peaceful capture of the Krebiz ship. Although damage is relatively
slight, with the exception of a few natural disasters, it is the greatest
destruction seen on Arretia in hundreds of years. While the Arretian
people are frightened, disgusted, and disturbed by this action on the part
of the alien Krebiz, the AIs go into virtual panic: there were obviously
hostile forces "out there" and these aliens were threatening not only to
the existence of the machines, but were a danger to the safety and the

security of their precious charges, the organic Arretian citizens. During
the next five decades, the Arretians will begin to design and build a
space fleet to defend themselves from these alien predators. However, the
first organic deaths caused by the dangers of the unknown conditions of
space travel will force the machine-majority to pass a benevolent but
ultimately stifling referendum: Organic Arretians are banned from such
dangerous journeys, forever. And as time passes, the living citizens lose
more and more of their self-determination because of the machine-citizens'
smothering desire to protect and nurture them [SFB].

The genetically-perfect integrated Earth colony on Moab IV is founded
[TNG 213].

Dohlman Alais comes to power on Elas. She will rule for twelve Elasian
years [TOS #68].

Briam, the future ambassador of Krios is born [TNG 221].

The White Rhino becomes extinct on Earth, among other species.
The Alpine "Imperial" eagle will at least be reintroduced later in
this century via cloning and natural breeding stock [TNG 210, TNG #24].

Tarok is born. He will join the Vulcan trade mission and his keen
Vulcan intellect and illuminating logic will formulate the 24th Century's
non-monetary economic environment. Effigies of Tarok will be burned
during holidays on Ferengi worlds. The Central Source, a Vulcan political
group, will oppose the financial policy and the abolition of money as a
means of exchange. Like Sarek, Tarok will be a Symmetrist and will die
from induced Bendii Syndrome [GN 26].

[reference stardate 1/16]
The "Clark" class space tanks are withdrawn from service [SFC].

In the "Mirror" universe, Izar becomes the 108th world taken over by the
empire [TBoT #14].
