You will give an oral presentation that lasts from 2-3 minutes. You may use notecards to help you remember what to say, but you may not read from them. Your presentation should include the following:

An introduction that grabs the audience's attention

bullet

Title and Author of your book

bullet

Description of the setting (time and place)

bullet

Description of the main characters (2-4)

bullet

Summary (how it begins, what is the problem, how is the problem solved)

bullet

Your opinion (Would you recommend it ? Why or why not?)

Your grade will be determined by how you relate important details of the book to the class and speaking skills. Practice your presentation several times in front of a mirror or to members of your family. Use the following checklist to plan your oral presentation.

bulletI used helpful transitions between main points (like "First of all..." or "In conclusion...").

bulletThe conclusion summarized what I thought about the book.
Delivery
bulletMy voice varied in pitch. It was not a monotone.
bulletI used notes sparingly. I did not read from them.
bulletI used standard grammar.
bulletI didn't hesitate or lose my place.
bulletI didn't use filler words (um, uh, like, mmm).
bulletI didn't call attention to my errors by apologizing.
bulletI didn't fidget, rock back and forth, or pace.
bulletI maintained good posture.
bulletI maintained good eye contact most of the time.
bulletI spoke to the entire audience, not just one or two people.
bulletMy pronunciation was clear and easy to understand.
bulletMy rate of speech was neither too fast nor too slow.
bulletMy volume was neither too loud nor too soft.
