The following links may contain helpful and fun information that relates to our fifth grade curriculum. Some of them work best with high speed lines or may require a plugin like Flash or Shockwave. Reading

Washoe County Library--Link to the library computer, search for a book, and with a library card, put a book on hold from home.
Children's Literature Web Guide--all kinds of internet resources for children and young adults.
Scholastic--books, games, and activities by the publishing company.
Time for Kids--interactive site for kids, parents, and teachers.

 

Spelling and Vocabulary

Fun Brain--word and math games for students, parents, and teachers.
Oxymoron List--This one is fun! How many contradictory word groups do you know?
Puzzlemaker--Discover School's site for making all kinds of puzzles.
Word Central--an interactive grammar and word site for elementary and middle school students.

 

Language Arts

Big Dog's Grammar--a guide to the "bare bones" of grammar.
Common Proofreading Symbols--Now you know what your writing teacher means. Includes links to other writing resources.
Principles of Composition--great site for teachers and parents who want more information about writing and the writing process. Maintained by an English professor at Capital Community College in Hartford, Connecticut.

Guide to Grammar and Writing--Part of the site by the same professor in Connecticut, this site will answer everything you ever wanted to know about grammar.

 

 

Math

AAA Math--skills, concepts, and problem solving grouped by grade level. Interactive practice on every page.

Ask Dr. Math--reference site for all levels, elementary through college. Site is neatly categorized by age and topic.
Cool Math--an amusement park of mathematics and very cool!
Harcourt Animated Math Glossary--comprehensive animated glossary of math terms trouped by grade level.

A Maths Dictionary for Kids--strange name, but another great interactive site for math terms.

 

 

Science and Social Studies

For many in-depth web resources in science and social studies, check out my Portaportal, a web-based bookmark service. I have selected and categorized my favorites that correlate with fifth-grade curriculum. You can use Portaportal from any computer that has internet access.

After you select the Portaportal link, type my user name
(kitmcc) into the guest access box and click "Visit." This will open my portaportal to you. Enjoy!
