The Mold

Bob uses a plywood mold (upper left) to secure the corner blocks to during the initial stages (upper right)  The sides, or ribs, are glued to the corner blocks and end blocks after they are shaped. Then the linings are added around the edges of the sides to reinforce the joint between the sides and the top (left). Once the top of the violin is joined to the sides, the mold is removed. The same procedure is followed on the backside.

The holes in the mold are to insert C clamps through to clamp the sides to the corner blocks until the glue is set.  ( Click here to go to next step.)
