The Ribs |
|
Bob uses this bending iron to heat and bend the ribs of the violin. The egg shape of the iron allows him to create any size or shape curve. The curly maple sides of the violin are steamed to make them flexible. They are then very slowly shaped around the iron to match the desired curve. He uses a leather belt to put even pressure on the ribs to give a uniform curve. |
