Meta tags are keyed “description” and “keywords” that are located between the start and end head tags of an HTML document. These tags help promote your Web pages by assisting search engines in cataloging your site. Other Meta tags can be used to provide instructions to browsers, such as an instruction to move to another URL. You can put them on just the index (home) page or on every page that you create and publish, but the more pages you put them on; it will help your site to be promoted by search engines.

What you can include in a Meta tag: Locate your curser in a line between the head start and end tags. Use commas to separate keywords and keyword phrases.
< meta name=”description” content=”description of your Web page.” />
< meta name=”keywords” content=”your keywords here” />
< meta http-equiv=”refresh” content=”the URL to be redirected to” />
