What do Web designers do? They create the things a visitor sees, reads, hears, clicks or fills out on a Web site. The Web's visual richness requires designers who have experience in creating and manipulating graphics. Behind these visible elements is an array of offstage components: the codes, scripts, and elements that make the page and the site work. Web designers create entire Web sites with careful consideration to both visible and invisible aspects of the site.
What careers will help train tomorrow's Web designer? Many might think that technical training will be the most important quality for anyone entering Web design. Although the Web employs sophisticated technology, and continually looks for technical innovations, the purposes for which the Web has been put use often go beyond technical know-how.
To continue the Web's growing importance as a place for research and learning, designers with knowledge in instructional design, teaching, and learning processes will find their place within the Web design community.
