Allen Frazier Flying Field Operation Rules
Field Rules for the Operation of Model Aircraft
1. As specified by the City of Valley, Alabama, persons using this field for Radio Control (R/C) activities must be members of the Valley R/C Flyers Club.
2. Field Operation hours for Model Aircraft ONLY are from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to dusk Sunday. Flight activities are allowed at other times (except before 12:00 p.m. on Sunday) when other people are not in the area.
3. No alcoholic beverages allowed!!
4. Visiting pilots are welcome when club member(s) are present. Pilots from surrounding areas, or not from recognized R/C clubs are allowed 3 flying visits before dues must be paid.
5. All pilots must belong to the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).
6. The AMA Safety Code will be observed at all times.
7. The following frequency control procedures will be in force at all times:
a) NEVER SWITCH ON A TRANSMITTER UNTIL YOU PHYSICALLY HAVE POSSESSION OF THE CHANNEL PIN(S).
b) All transmitters must have frequency identification markings as specified by the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
c) Before switching on a transmitter, place your AMA card in the appropriate slot of the channel you are using. Remove the pin for your channel number and place on your antenna.
d) All transmitters and receivers must be narrow band.
e) Try to keep at least 20 feet of separation between your transmitter and all other active transmitters and receivers while walking to and from the flight stations.
f) After flight activities have ended, DO NOT switch the transmitter off until the aircraft engine has stopped completely and the receiver is switched off.
g) Return pin(s) to frequency board after flight activities have ended.
8. Flight operations will stop during electrical storms.
9. Only pilots and assistants are allowed on the flight line during ANY flight activities.
10. The following noise abatement and control procedures are in effect at all times.
a) ALL R/C ENGINES MUST HAVE A SOUND LEVEL EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN 98 dBA AT 9 FEET TO BE OPERATED FROM THIS FIELD. **NO EXCEPTIONS**
b) All engines must have a muffler.
c) Any aircraft that is deemed to have excess noise, must be checked before the engine can be used at this field.
d) If the exhaust manifold or stack(s) are damaged or come loose on a gasoline engine, the engine must be checked for noise level compliance before the aircraft can be flown.
e) If the muffler is lost or damaged during flight, the pilot must reduce the engine RPM and IMMEDIATELY land the aircraft. The aircraft CAN NOT be flown again until the muffler is replaced and/or repaired.
11. Prospective members, spectators, and young children (accompanied by a parent) must be escorted by a club member when on the flight line. Young children will not be allowed on the flight line when ANY flight activities are in progress.
12. There shall be NO SMOKING when handling fuels near models.
13. Prior to starting a fixed-wing aircraft engine, the aircraft must be placed so that the propeller is facing the runway.
14. Pilots engaged in flight activities must stand at a designated flight station except when taxing.
15. There shall never be more than 6 aircraft in the air at one time.
16. Pilots shall use appropriate announcement when taking off, landing, or emergency situations.
17. Landings and take off shall only occur on the active runway.
18. There shall be no high speed taxing toward the pit or spectator area.
19. DO NOT fly over the pit or spectator areas - All airborne activities must occur in front of the flight line.
20. It is highly recommended that no one fly alone.
21. In addition to the above rules, the following rules apply for the operation of R/C helicopters:
a) Before starting the engine, make sure all switches are in their proper position.
b) After starting the engine, carry or have an assistant carry the helicopter to a flight station.
c) Helicopters are to be carried back to the pit area after flight activities have ended.
d) There shall be NO HOVERING in the pit area. Hovering practice shall be done to the left or right of the flight line/pit area.
e) Perform all run-ups and engine adjustments on the flight line.
f) If possible, have an observer while flying the helicopter.
22. Compliance to these rules is the responsibility of each participant.
