They're Not Going to the Doghouse!

Our youth are going to the dogs I am told,
By those of us who are getting "old."

But there is one thing I don't understand;
Why blame the dogs for something caused by man?

Dogs are the best friends mans' ever had,
So to go to the dogs couldn't be bad.

"Where are they going?" I'm often asked;
And to give that answer is no great task.

They're just going where we've already been!
They're not going to the dogs: they're following men!

So before you give old Rover a bad name;
Let's see where we should really put the blame.

Go to the mirror on the wall,
And ask---"Who is the leader of it all?"

The answer will come loud and clear:
"The one who is looking right in here."

When children are born they know no good thing;
Evil and good are to them the same.

They can learn good as well as bad;
It depends on the example they've had!

So before you look at the youth down your nose;
Let's put the blame where it really goes.

Take a look at yourself, and also at me;
For we are the examples they must see.

For every delinquent you see on the street;
Follow them home: one or two you will meet.

What our youth know, they've learned from us;
So don't blame poor Rover for our fuss.

Don't run down the youth of our nation;
But let's put on a good demonstration.

Not with posters; or burning; or booze;
Just show them good habits from which to choose!

As they say--"Monkey do what monkey see!"
What will they learn from you and me?

So leave old Rover asleep in the barn;
If our youth go to him they'll do no harm.

Dogs don't get drunk and waste their money;
And they wouldn't find our entertainment funny.

Dogs don't make cigarettes: they don't make gin;
So why blame them for the trouble we're in?

Let's give credit where credit is due;
Why blame the dogs for what belongs to you?
