Rumors

Let not your heart be guided by
                                                        The rumors that you hear,
But give the victim every chance
                                                        To prove he is sincere.

Let not your mind be poisoned by
                                                        The darts some people throw;
                                                    Investigate, and try to find
The facts you ought to know.

It is so easy to condemn,
                                                        And play a dirty game,
                                                    To manufacture lies, and to
                                                        Besmirch a worthy name.

Be careful when you read reports
Or hear them on the air,
                                                    Some words escape the censors,
                                                        And could be quite unfair.

Be careful in your judgment of
                                                        The rumors you receive,
And take your time before you choose
                                                        The things that you believe.
