Spanish 1 Final Unit, May 2008: Mi Familia
The unit will have 3 components worth approximately 75-85 points total. Please note due dates, and be aware that grades for the final presentation will fall one letter grade per day for unexcused lateness. More than two days late is a 'zero'.
Part I: Family Tree (10 points)
Create a family tree with at least 10 individuals spanning at least 3 generations. If you don’t know or prefer not to reveal your private family tree, feel free to make up a false “family” of at least 10 members that spans 3 generations. See instruction sheet and model for more details. Due Wednesday, May 21st.
Part II: Classwork, individual assignments/quiz (15-25 points,
depending on time and class progress)
As we learn and practice the vocabulary and conversational phrases and structures you need, you will complete a few assignments and do activities in class and/or at home which may be graded. We may have a quiz or two along the way.
Part III: Oral Presentations (50 points)
You will present your family to the class. Using your family tree, you will describe your family in general (Big, small, how many aunts/cousins you have). You will also “bring in” 2-3 family members. This could be the actually family member, a life-sized cutout, or poster drawing. The most effective presentations will have props (wigs, sports equipment etc.) that illustrate what you are saying about each family member. For specific requirements regarding what you have to include in the presentation, see the checklist and rubric. You are expected to memorize your presentation and not use note cards or read. You may have one or two keywords written/posted on your 'family members', but not phrases/sentences that you read!!!! Due Wednesday, May 28th
**You will also receive a participation grade for asking appropriate follow-up questions during your classmates' presentations.**
Checklist for oral presentation: Make sure you can do the below!

The information you give about your 2 family members is clearly illustrated by their physical appearance and props
You used a wide variety of vocabulary from the list of phrases and vocab items we brainstormed.
You wrote down or at least wrote and outline of your presentation, and practiced several times to be sure you have it memorized.
You have practiced and can ask follow-up questions of your classmates' presentations.
