Study your vocabulary using the strategies below!  Ask me if you see a new word and aren’t sure how it is pronounced—this applies especially if we have not practiced the word much yet!

How to study

Vocabulary:

Do the following IN THIS ORDER, as they become more challenging as you go:

1. Cover the Spanish and see if you can say the word / phrase if you see the Spanish.  Make flashcards (see below) for the ones you can’t, and drill yourself.  Or, have somebody quiz you orally.

2. Switch, and do the same but see if you can say the SPANISH.  Make flashcards for the ones you can’t say

3. Look at the English and see if you can WRITE the Spanish.  For the ones you didn’t spell correctly, practice writing them, checking for spelling!

Reading comprehension

  • Look over any readings/stories you have in your binder, and review the vocabulary in them
  •  Read over any dialogues, making sure you understand them.  Write them out for extra practice.

Writing

  • Practice writing sentences and/or dialogues with whatever vocab/phrases you need most to practice.
  • Practice answering any questions that are presented on your vocab list.
  • 'Build a sentence':  write a short sentence, then add to it by asking yourself details such as "who? what? when? where? how? why? --have the teacher check them if you have no way of verifying their correctness...

Flashcards

  • Make flashcards for all the vocab—Cards involving no English will help you more, so where possible choose a Spanish/picture format
  • Study flashcards, first looking at the Spanish words and seeing if you know what it means, then flipping and looking at the English/picture and seeing if you can say/write the vocab word.  (same order as 'vocab' above)
