          LOCATIONS & BRIEF NOTES FOR THE CEMETERIES

The Asbury Cemetery is located in the western tip of the Town of Onalaska, at the northern end of CTH "ZZ", in an area locally known as Brice Prairie. The cemetery originally had a church on its premises, believed to be the Asbury Methodist Church. The church was moved many years ago and is now used as the Town Hall of the Town of Onalaska. The remaining land was plotted into additional cemetery lots, giving the cemetery a goofy numbering system. Location is Sect. 23 T 17 N - R 8 W NE 1/4 NW 1/4 on Brice Prairie, N. of Onalaska on Hwy 35-53, left onto Co Z 3. miles. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Barre Cemetery is located near Barre Mills, in the Town of Barre, along CTH "OA", about a mile south of the community. Barre Mills is about four miles south of West Salem. Across the road from the cemetery their originally was a Norwegian Lutheran church, which explains the preponderance of Norwegian names in the cemetery. Location is Sect. 29 T.16 N. - R.6 W on Co. It is found on Perkins Road, .25 mile south of the junction with County Q, 3.25 miles west of Burr Oak. Location is Sect. 11 T 18 N - R 6 W SE 1/4 NW 1/4. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Burns Cemetery is located in the Town of Burns. It is found on State Highway 162, .2 mile north of junction with U.S. Highway 16. It is found at the junction of County C and County A, 0.5 miles south of Hwy 108. It is east of Burr Oak; next to the church. Location is Sect. 12 NW 1/4 SE 1/4. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Burr Oak Methodist Cemetery is located in the Town of Farmington. It is found on Hwy 108, 0.2 miles north of junction with County A. It is west of Burr Oak. Location is Sect. 11 SE 1/4 NW 1/4. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Campbell Cemetery is located in the City of La Crosse. It is found on County B and Oak Street, 0.2 miles south of junction with Palace Street. It is now in the City of La Crosse, but historically was owned and operated by the Town of Campbell. Location is Sect. 21. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Christ Lutheran Cemetery is located in the Village of West Salem. Cemetery is contiguous with the Hamilton cemetery and is located just to the west of it, along Highway 16. There are three entrances leading to the three locations which are (presently) off of Highway 16. Highway 16 is at the western end of Garland Street. Location is Sect. 4 T 16 N - R 6 W NE 1/4 NE 1/4 .3 mi. east of jct. of Hwy 16 and Co. M. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Engelson Family Cemetery is located in the Town of Onalaska, about 0.4 miles from the junction of Johnson Coulee Road and Olson Road. The cemetery is on a wooded hill behind a farm house at W5746 Olson Road. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Fairview Cemetery is located in the southern downtown section of the village of Bangor. It is found at the western end of Fairview Avenue, which is between the local railroad track and Interstate 90. It is run and maintained by the village of Bangor. Records are kept at the Village Hall. Location is Sect. 5 T.16 N.- R.5 W. SE 1/4 SE 1/4. Location is in Sect. 20 T 18 N - R 6 W NE 1/4 SW 1/4. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The French Island Cemetery is located on French Island in the Town of Onalaska, at the intersection of Fanta Reed Road and Lakeshore Drive. The cemetery is across from Island Park Baptist Church. Location is SE 1/5 NE 1/4. It is about .1 mile south of the junction with Hwy 93. It is contiguous with the Christ Lutheran Cemetery. It is bordered on the north by Highway 16, on the south by Franklin Street, and runs from Vera Lane to Rosewood Lane in the southwest corner of the village. It is found on hill behind J. Helgeson farm house, .8 mile north on County M from junction of County M and County W. Location is Sect. 1 T 17 N - R 7 W. The cemetery is located at 3501 Park Lane Drive in the City of La Crosse. It was originally part of the Town of Shelby. The cemetery may be found by continuing east on Garland Street for some five blocks along a dirt and gravel farm road. Location is Sect. 35 T 17 N - R 6 W. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Neshonoc Cemetery is located about a mile north of West Salem, on Highway 108, in the Town of Hamilton. The cemetery is located near where the original village (Neshonoc) was built. It is the largest, if not the oldest cemetery in the group. Location is Sect. 27 T 17 N - R 6 W sE 1/4 nE 1/4. Location is Sect. 36 SW 1/4 NW 1/4. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Sand Creek Cemetery is located in the Town of Burns It is found on True Road, 0.2 miles east of junction with County A or 0.5 miles west of Hwy 162. Location is Sect. 12 T.18 N. - R.7 W. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Scandinavian Baptist Cemetery is located in the Town of Onalaska. It is found on County M, .9 mile se of junction of County M & County W at Casberg farm. Location is Sect. 14 T 17N - R 7 W SW 1/4 SW 1/4. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery is located near Barre Mills, in the Town of Barre, along CTH "M", about a mile east of the community. Barre Mills is about four miles south of West Salem. The cemetery consists of a modern section which is built on the south and west of the St Johns church, and a small, older cemetery that is about a half mile east of the church, along CTH "M". The first 64 lots of the cemetery records are those of the older cemetery. Location is Sect. 27 T.16 N - R.6 W.NW 1/4 SE 1/4 as well as Sect. 27 T.16 N - R.6 W.NW 1/4 SE 1/4 ON Co. It is found on Amundson Road, south of the junction of County Highway C and County D. Location is in Sect. 35 W 1/4 NW 1/4. For a map of the area containing this cemetery, click Here The Welsh Methodist Cemetery is located in Town of Bangor on County J, 0.3 miles south of the junction of County B and County C, about 1.0 miles south of Rockland. Originally called the Second Welsh Calvinistic Methodist Society Cemetery. Location is SE 1/4 SE 1/4 in Section 1. Originally called the Presbyterian Church of Fish Creek. Location is NW 1/4 NE 1/4 in Section 12.
