Military service: 1861, Ninth Virginia Cavalry in Conferderate Army of Civil War in which he served for about 2 years and then was detailed as a recruiting officer and drill master as Lieutenant until 1865.

Occupation: Agriculture and stock-raising.  His enterprise was manifest in improved methods of farming and the erection of buildings.

Religion: Presbyterian Church of Hopkinsville and is a member of the Knights of Honor

Residence: Moved to Christian County Ky in 1869 and leased the Peebles Farm.  Later lived in magnificent home on the corner of South and Campbell Streets.

Obituary for Margaret S. Wilson in the Tuesday, January 14, 1890

issue of the Southern Kentuckian (Hopkinsville, KY). 

Mrs. Margaret S. Wilson, wife of R. H. Wilson, Exq. died at her home in this

city at 2 am Saturday of erysipelas, aged 47 years.  Her death was rather

sudden, as she had been sick but a few days.

 

Mrs. Wilson was a consistent memeber of the Presbyterian Church and was one

of the best of women.  Her death is a great loss to her church and a severe

blow to her family.  She leaves four sons and one daughter, three of them

about grown.  The funeral was preached by Rev W. L. Nourse at the Nineth

Street Presbyterian Church at 2 pm Sunday

She lived in Newton Massachusetts for 10 years before moving to Durham in 1932.  She was a member of the Community Church of Durham, and a former member and past president of the University Folk Club.  She was a member of the former Bourgoin-Reardon A.L. Aux. Unit 84 of Durham, and a member of the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Auxillary.

She was a charter member and for many years a director of the Oyster River Health Assoc. 

 

 Funeral Services were held at the Chapel of the Community Church of Durham by Rev. Mary Westfall. 

She had one child, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a daughter-in-law.
