Schnee Eifel
Photos of Schnee Eifel taken by Pierre Constant, Brussels, Belgium
(Descriptions are Pierre's also.)

This photo is taken from Hill 576 between Auw and Radscheid (where the German "forgot" 500 GIs till 21 December) in direction of Schoenberg.

Schnee Eifel landscape. Wascheid village (Germany).

This is Bleialf village in the rear of the 38th Regt. Photo taken from the East to the West.
This landscape is typical of the Schnee Eifel region.

Bleialf then and now.The church is at the end of the road.

Buchet/Schnee Eifel
Above: the road is coming from Bleialf and go to the Schnee Eifel forest which you see at the horizon.
There was the left flank of the 38th Regt. To the right isBuchet village

This photo is interesting because it is generaly impossible to have a view toward the german area (Nov./Dec.44) from the forest on top of Schnee Eifel. This one is possible because the foresters have cuted the old trees. The view is taken from the positions of the right flank of the 38th Rgt in the forest.
We are at the same height as Buchet behind us in the other site of the forest. This photo is taken 50 yards far from the fox holes.

Along the road the heart of the forest. There are some bunkers ruines along the road, and many have a little wooden shack on it.

Oberlascheid
The road comes down the heart of the forest toward the valley and Oberlascheid. This village is exactly in the middle of the positions of 9th Regt and 38th Regt. You see an exploded bunker which protected the acces to the valley in the rear of the positions in the forest. Below: in the middle Oberlascheid village and at the horizon is Skyline Boulevard.(photo taken from the East to the West)

Dugout
Just in front of the exploded bunker are marks of a big dugout (not visible on the photo because of the snow).
