As part of the 2nd Infantry Division, 38th Infantry Regiment, Company B, Sgt. Bishop landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy on June 7, 1944 (D-Day+1) and was one of only eight men of Company B (out of 190 of them) who was with them all the way from Normandy to Pilsen**.

He returned to the United States with the 99th Infantry Division, 395th Infantry Regiment, as part of Company B.
