Was invited to join a few of the North Central Concours Owner's Group folks to attend a preview of the new Classic Motorcycles shop in St. Louis on 4/15/00.

What a neat place!

I've only called St. Louis my home for the past 3 years, so I didn't know that Dave Mungenast Sr., who owns auto dealerships here, was at one time a well-regarded motorcyclist.  Dave was on the US ISDT team a time or two, good friends with Dick Mann, and so on.

Dave has collected a bunch of neat bikes over the years, and has opened Classic Motorcycles to share this collection with the public, sell a few of them, offer bikes for sale on consignment, and to showcase other notable St. Louis-area motorcycling history.

We spent the morning there, and it was truly educational.  Lots to learn about what went on with motorcycling in this area in particular.  And so many neat bikes on display.  The front room was arranged in sections: Vintage Brit / Matchless / Triumph / BSA / Norton; Vintage Italian, Vintage MX, and so on.  Middle room had a veritable history of Honda, including an original GL1000 that was mouth-watering.

Then the door to the backroom/warehouse was opened...probably 100 bikes back there, some waiting to be restored, some serving as parts bikes.  I counted 5 Kawasaki H1's, saw a very cherry XS650 Yamaha twin...and got a real grin out of seeing a real vintage classic, a '78 SR500 with 14K on the clock.  Oh, wait...I rode in on a bike just like that!  I'm getting a message over this; something about having my daily ride being featured in a "classics" museum.  Must be time to buy something more modern!

Anyhow, please visit Classic Motorcycles when you're in St. Louis.  Very, very friendly folks, they treated us very nice and said to be sure to tell everyone interested to be sure to stop by.
