The "autopsy" of my broken
SR revealed that, yes indeed, I had stuck a valve open, which got bent by
the piston on the next stroke, and gashed/cracked the piston. The intake
valve was chipped for good measure. While a new piston and rings were
recommended, the cylinder had standard bore, no scoring, so with a mild hone
would make it good as new.
Here are some photos of the broken
parts. I'd never seen SR internals before, the components are about
small-block Chevy sized, which kind of makes sense...8 of these would be
a 4-litre, about a 265 small block.
