I'm
using this page to serve as a handy place to recap what I've been doing
professionally of late, and what topics are getting the most of my
time. If I get smart
about it, I'll organize it so that it can be a nice home page for me,
that
organizes my favorite/most-used references into one place.
I've been doing information systems work for over 20 years, mostly software development but more recently distributed systems operations. I enjoy both these roles (development and operations) even as they take very different skill sets to manage. I'm always looking to network with other folks working in these areas. Here's my professional contact information: Lowell
Mattox Career stops so far... Sisters
of Mercy Health System, where I'm working on process and
performance as Mercy works to integrate and standardize IT systems
across seven hospital groups. MasterCard International, whose corporate systems I led from 1997 to 2004. We built a very effective support and development organization for 5500 customers, 50+ sites worldwide, switched Ethernet, Wintel platform. A great team. Fidelity Investments was my opportunity to do everything right. Built an organization from scratch, did a lot of innovative work in workflow and user interfaces. Another great team. Sprint Corporation taught me a lot about change, and about life in a large corporate setting. Pretty mainstream work there, including though a lengthy stint looking at software development tools and practices (who remembers CASE tools?). Lots of college recruiting and organizational development. DST Systems, in Kansas City, I often claim is Kansas City's largest secret company, since they don't "sell" anything a consumer would recognize. They may still be the nation's largest mutual fund transfer agency, and are into lots of image-processing and workflow solutions these days. Almost 6 years here working on MVS platform assembler language online systems, major system conversions. Harmon Electronics, now part of GE Transportation, where I spent my first days in systems work. They make railroad traffic control systems...in days of yon, we did all this on DEC PDP-11's with 128kb of memory (twiddle those bits!). |
