I have undertaken an attempt to document the ancestors of my children. This web page is about the KESTERSON line to which the children are related. Where information was available on collateral lines, I have entered the information.

Sylvester Welch KESTERSON was born in Virginia in 1785. He married Elizabeth JOHNSON, b. abt 1784 in Amherst VA, on Dec 16, 1806 in Amherst VA.
In the 1810 census, Sylvester, Elizabeth and a son were living in Augusta, VA.
By 1830, they were living in Anderson, TN. The 1830 census shows they now have 11 children. Through the 1860 census, Sylvester and Elizabeth lived in Anderson County, TN. Both died in Anderson County TN. The 1870 census shows Sylvester as deceased, my records show abt 1866. Elizabeth died about 1876.

Children of Sylvester and Elizabeth were:

  • William, 18 Sep 1808, residing in Hamilton, IN in 1840, in Polk MO by 1850 and Mills IA 1860-70-80.
  • Nancy, b abt 1809, m 9 Mar 1849 Samuel HOSGINS, Anderson TN.
  • There might also have been a son named Henry, b abt 1809, which my records show fits in here.
  • Thomas, b 1811, in Hamilton IN 1840 and 1850 and in Tippecanoe IN 1860. m Nancy - his children Wm/George/Samuel/Della m ANDERSON/Ann m MONTGOMERY and Mary m ROLAND.
  • Rebecca Jane, b 1812, m Benjamin F LIVELY in 1830, brother to Jordon LIVELY.
  • John, b 1817, residing in Hamilton IN in 1840/1850, m Elizabeth, Anderson TN. He remained in TN, his children were Peter J and Parthenia.
  • Peter Johnson, b 1823 m Susan STROUD, 12 Nov 1849
  • Louisa, b 5 Apr 1824, d 27 Sep 1871 had 2 children Jane and Jonathan - never married.
  • James Roland, b 1829 TN, d 1856-1860, m 10 Feb 1850 Anderson TN to Eliza Jane WALKER. His children were James, Thomas, Hannah and Cordelia.
  • Salina, b 1829 TN.
  • Margaret, b abt 1831, m 5 Apr 1838 Anderson TN to Wm RIDENOUR.

    William Thomas KESTERSON was the eldest son of Sylvester and Elizabeth (JOHNSON) KESTERSON. Born in Virginia 18 Sep 1808, he married Hannah M ULRED about 1831, more than likely in TN, which is where Williams parents were living. Hannah was born 23 Feb 1811 in TN, the daughter of Solomon ULRED and an unknown spouse.
    In 1840, William and Hannah were living in Hamilton, IN. In 1850, in Polk MO and by 1860 in Mills County, IA. In 1853, William is shown as a pioneer to Mills County, IA with son Solomon Thomas. The 1880 census puts William, age 72, and Hannah, age 68, in Rawles Township, Mills County, IA. The 1885 Iowa census have William, age 77, and Hannah, age 75, in Rawles Twp, Mills County, IA. Willam died Dec 28, 1885 and was buried in Waubonsie Cemetery, Mills Co, IA. Hannah died Oct 11, 1886 in Mills County and is buried in Waubonsie Cemetery, Mills Co, IA.

    Solomon Thomas KESTERSON was the second child and first son of William and Hannah (ULRED) KESTERSON. Solomon was born Sep 5, 1833 in Indiana. The 1840 census has William, Hannah living in Hamilton, IN. By the 1850 census, William, Hannah and their children were living in Polk County, MO. By 1853, they had moved to and pioneered in Mills Co, IA.
    In 1853, Solomon T. Kesterson is one of several settlers who listed land in Mills County, IA in Township 71, Range 42.
    Census for 1870, Lyons Township, Mills County IA, show S.T., age 36, and Sarah, age 34, and 6 children; John W, age 16; William N, age 13; Andrew J, age 12; Henry, age 9; Robert, age 6 and Isaac, age 1 (all born in IA).
    By the 1880 census, Solomon, age 46; Sarah, age 44; and 5 children; Andrew, age 22; Robert, age 15; Issac K, age 11; Donelan, age 8 and Tilden, age 5; living in Belvediere Township, Monona County, IA.
    The 1895 Iowa census has Solomon, age 61; Sarah, age 58 and two children; Tilden, age 20 (well digger) and Sarah Emma, age 18 living in Rawles Township, Mills County, IA.
