Short Program Music: "Higher Ground" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers; Free
Skate Music: Selections from "Beauty and the Beast" by Alan Menken and
Howard Ashman ... Radio City Hall Rockettes choreographer Marianne
Selbert will be working with the team on choreography this year ... The
idea for the short program music came from the movie "Center Stage" ...
There is a dance scene to the song in the movie, and the Hockettes
wanted to capture the energy and sense of fun the dancers had with the
piece ... Goal is to skate to their full potential every competition ...
They will have more difficult footwork and increased speed.

Notes
Coach Erin Donovan competed in the 2001 World Synchronized Skating
Championships with Miami University ... Age range of skaters is 13-19
... All skaters must have passed at least their novice
moves-in-the-field test, and be committed, passionate and work hard ...
The Hockettes work out six hours each week on ice and four hours a week
off ice as a team ... The team's season runs from mid-June to March ...
The team goes to a week-long summer training camp, working on on- and
off-ice choreography, team building, conditioning, dance and skill
development ... Team mascot is a tiger.
Founded in 1956, the Hockettes are the original synchronized skating team ... The team began by performing simple group numbers at University of Michigan hockey games and the annual Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club Ice Show ... Over the years that followed, the team put in guest appearances in the World Champions' Tours, the Lake Placid International Festival, and even in the center ring (on ice) of the Shrine Circus ... As if all that glamour wasn't enough, the team skated in U.S. Figure Skating's 50th anniversary show "Champions on Ice" ... The team has been in existence for 49 years and has competed at the national level since the first U.S. Synchronized Team Skating Championships in 1984.
