Purpose of the Group:
To provide a warm, accepting, and supportive environment for those people who are distressed by the symptoms of anxiety. This group will run continuously and there is no cost to participate. People can enter this group at any time but must register prior to attending their first meeting.
This group will be suitable for people diagnosed with any anxiety disorder. People with a dual diagnosis should be limited to depression or substance abuse. If substance abuse is involved, it must be a secondary problem related to the anxiety disorder. Sobriety is a requirement.
The group will provide its members a place to share their experience, learn from one another, and provide encouragement. Perhaps the best recognized treatment for the anxiety disorders is cognitive-behavioral therapy using cognitive restructuring and desensitization. Therefore, the group format will incorporate many of these techniques for use by the membership.
