Dear Birthmother,

We are Bob and Julie Long. We hope this letter will convey our personalities, our relationships with each other, our families and friends, and most of all the love we will have for a baby. We admire your strength and courage in making this decision to give the gift of parenthood.

We have been together for 8 years and married in 2000. We have a wonderful home together with Bob’s two children from a previous marriage - Bobby & Jenny, plus Chaz, Maxine and Jo (our 3 cats) and Jake our dog. We'd love to share our love and life with another child!

  Family & Friends
Bob’s parents live across the street from us and it is wonderful to have them so close. One of Bob's sisters lives only 5 minutes away with her two children, ages 12 and 5. All of his sisters are anxious to become aunts again. They all have great relationships with our children and can’t wait to come and visit a new family member. His parents are also excited about becoming grandparents again and are thrilled that we have this opportunity through open adoption. They will be close by to nurture and bond with their youngest grandchild.

Julie’s younger brother lives in Oakland, which is an hour away. He is a wonderful uncle for Bobby and Jenny and spends time with each of them, whether it’s talking electronics and cars with Bobby or paying rapt attention to Jenny’s comedic acts. Julie’s parents also live in Oakland, but find lots of reasons to come see us. They are always attending an event for Bobby or Jenny, one of our neighborhood gatherings, or just coming over for Grandma to bring her fresh baked cookies! They are excitedly awaiting a newborn grandchild and can’t wait to help out with whatever is needed.

Bobby is 16 and a junior in high school. He is an excellent student and a Varsity basketball player. He works in a local basketball league on the weekends as referee/coach/administrator. Bobby loves children and is patient with them. He looks forward to helping his younger brother/sister learn any sport he/she desire.

Jenny is 13 years old and in seventh grade. She is a great student and enjoys playing the violin, music, basketball, and her friends. Jenny likes to babysit for our friends' two children down the street who are 3 and 5, but loves playing with all children and does a great job keeping them entertained. Jenny looks forward to decorating the baby’s room and can’t wait to pick out baby clothes and shoes!

We have an incredible circle of family and friends. Some live close (in our neighborhood) and others live as far away as Florida, South Carolina and Georgia. We have many close friends in our neighborhood and we rely on each other for support. We all know each others parents, have taken care of each others kids, house and pet sit, and go on vacation together. All of our friends near and far, are anxious to welcome a new child into our circle and will all be an extended family for our baby as they are for Bobby and Jenny.
