Lynne Mason has a proven record of action regarding environmental issues facing the Town.
- Supported Steep Slope moratorium in order to allow the Town more time to study and determine what needed to be done to address developments such at the one above Wal-Mart.
- Supported the adoption of the Steep Slope ordinances that addressed both health and safety issues and preserving our environment for generations to come.
- Supported limiting the size of large-scale retail to no greater than 150,000 square feet.
- Supported ordinances to protect trees, add vegetative buffers and preserve green space.
- Supported Cool Cities Resolution.
- Amended Water/Sewer Ordinance to allow the harvesting and use of rainwater.
- Supported the Town’s development of “Every Drop Counts” (you've probably heard the radio spots!) , the Town’s water conservation education program, which she has adopted in her personal life.
- Supported an Energy Audit for Town Facilities in an effort to convert the Town to using energy more efficiently.
- Working on Storm Water Management Plan to include inclusion of Best Management Practices: Rain Gardens, Green Roofs, Low Impact Development, preservation of wetlands, protection of perennial streams, etc.
- Initiated Zero Waste Resolution and serve as a member on the newly formed Zero Waste Committee that is developing a Zero Waste Initiative for Watauga County including Reduce, Reuse, Compost, Recycle.
- Has adopted Zero Waste concepts in her personal life: reusing materials in everyday activities, home composting and recycling.
- Active member on the Greenway, Parks and Gardens Committee and the Walk Boone Committee.
- Supports maintaining a high quality of life while attracting responsible development.
- Encourages and supports citizen participation at all levels of town government.
