Prior to the 2006 DSBL season, DSBL teams retained the right of first refusal to re-sign a player who that DSBL team had designated as a “franchised” player but who lost the player when he was traded to or signed by an American League team.  If the player returns to the NL in the future and the DSBL wants to claim him, the DSBL must contract the player.  Here is the rule for our constitution prior to eliminating this “right”:

Any Franchise Player lost to the AL, who returns to the NL someday, is the property of the team who lost him. That is, the owner has "first right of refusal" to re-contract the player. If the owner decides to re-contract the player, he MUST cut one of his existing contracted players prior to the Annual Player Draft.
