Teaching Experience

2004- P T S A "Teacher of the Year" awarded by the Parent -Teacher-Student Organization of Franklin Middle School.

2000-Present Franklin Middle School Spanish Teacher. Head of the Foreign Language Department, and Coordinator and Founder of "Franklin Café" the School's Human Relations Club.

1999-2000 Intern at Franklin and Edison’s Middle Schools, Janesville Public Schools’ District. Taught seventh and eight graders Spanish without cooperating teacher.

Student taught Spanish III course at Parker High School in Janesville.

Planned a month long Multicultural Unit for third graders in conjunction with Mary Demrow, Madison Elementary School, Janesville. The unit introduced students to four minority groups in the United States: Native Americans, Latino/Hispanic Americans, African Americans and Asian American through literature, dance, art, food, geography, History, etc. and guest speakers from the community.

Crated a Language Fair to introduce sixth grader students’ to Foreign Languages implemented in Franklin Middle School, piloting on January 5th, 2000.

1999. Teachers’ Assistant, Beloit College. Planned, taught, and researched materials, to be used in three different Spanish courses offered at Beloit College.

Training taught at Beloit Memorial High School, Spanish I level course.

1996. Spanish teacher at Goelzer’s First Step Preschool, Janesville, Wisconsin. Taught language, culture, music, traditions, food and art from Spanish speaking countries in the world. Programmed Spanish lesson, field trips, games, etc. Developed lesson plans, parents newsletter and audio to follow up with the lessons (included songs and vocabulary used for the year)

Summer instructor, "College for Kids" at University of Wisconsin-Rock County. Taught an enrichment course for students in 2nd to 8th grades who are highly motivated to learn. Taught a class about Israel, its people, the language and culture. Taught "Hispanic and Latin American Tour," a ten- day course in which students are exposed to ten different Spanish speaking countries, their people, art, food, traditions, culture and history.

1997-96 Spanish teacher for mixed-age group of home schoolers.

1993-95. Hebrew instructor, Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin. Taught language, literature and history of the Modern Hebrew language.

1987. Hebrew instructor, Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin. Taught language, literature and history of the Modern Hebrew language.

1985. Taught and developed lesson plans for conversation, grammar, reading and writing in modern and biblical Hebrew for Temple Beth El, Madison, Wisconsin. The lesson plans were used as models for other teachers.

Taught Hebrew to university students at B’nai B’rith Hillel Foundation, Madison, Wisconsin.

Head teacher for Gan Ha Yeled, Jewish Pre-school, Madison Wisconsin. Started a bilingual program introducing the children to modern Hebrew.

Taught introductory Hebrew to adults for the Hadassah Foundation in Madison, Wisconsin.

1984-83. Pre-school teacher, Learning Centers of Dr. Freund, Green Bay, Wisconsin.

1979. Physical education teacher, director of physical education program for pre-school, kindergarten and elementary students. Kibbutz Nir Ytzhak, Israel.

Physical education teacher, Nes Ziona Hospital for the Emotionally Disturbed. Planned a summer program for children, incorporating dance, movement and group games.

General Experience

1998. Non Traditional Students Representative, Beloit College.

Helped as a liaison between the College, other students, BELSAC (College Student Government) and students older than the "traditional" college student. Maintained the Non- traditional student lounge and administrated the budget for the student group together with another representative from this group.

1995-96. Gourmet cook. Co-owner of the "Moveable Feast," a contract cooking service, specializing in international gourmet food, in Madison and Janesville, Wisconsin.

1997-92. Educational Director and administrator, Congregation B’nai Abraham in Beloit, Wisconsin. Planned budgets for religious school and class curricula for Hebrew language, Torah, Israel and Judaism. Hired teachers and teachers’ assistants. Planned adult education meetings and entertainment for the congregation and taught Hebrew, introduction to Judaism and Jewish cooking classes for adults. Wrote and edited the congregation’s bi-monthly bulletin. Recruited new members, wrote press releases for various newspapers. Facilitated the School’s Congregation efforts to secure a $500 first prize award from the Jewish National Fund in three consecutive years.

1992-91. Programmed educational and entertainment events for University of Wisconsin students at the Hillel Foundation, Madison, Wisconsin. Taught Hebrew, women’s studies in Judaism and organized Talmud/Torah classes. Programmed educational events between the Interim Multicultural Center at University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Hillel Foundation (Fiesta Latina, B.L.U.E.S., A Black and Jewish relations program, Brown Bag Lunches, etc.) During Edna’s tenure, the membership of students who affiliated with Hillel was one of the highest ever.

1989. Developed and directed a program for children at a three-county shelter for battered women in central Pennsylvania. Organized volunteers, gave sexual assault awareness programs for young children and teenagers in area schools or institutions, participated in multi-disciplinary teams dealing in case management for the physical and sexual assault in children, performed one-on-one counseling.

1984. Counselor and Recreational Activities director at Camp Shalom, Madison, Wisconsin, a Jewish camp for elementary and middle school children. Created and organized daily activities for the campers (art, candle making, dance, language, painting, sign language etc)

1982-79. Programmed lectures, arts and educational events and reorganized a library as Director of the Cultural Department of the National Hashomer Hatzair youth movement, Tel Aviv, Israel.
