¿Cómo funciona la clase de español de la Señora Edna ?

Parents want to know, too!

ASSIGNMENTS: Spanish classes are every other day. You must turn in assignments when due. I do not give an “F” I want your work!    You can fix this problem by staying after school and work with me. I will not give up on you, so do not give up on yourself, you may as well do your job when is due, and do it well.

* You should complete assignments on white composition paper (unless otherwise directed).

* Include a proper heading on all assignments. Name in Spanish, last name must be included with the class period hour, or the assignment will be disposed. If you have writing difficulties you can type your assignment, or record it on tape. Talk to me!

          * Handwriting must be legible or the paper will be returned or destroyed.

          * You should write only in blue or black ink. No red, green or purple inks, colored

pencils, markers (felt tip or scented), etc.

          * You should provide for removal of notebook fringe before the class period.

CLASS ACTIVITIES: You are expected to listen to directions and to complete class activities within time limits. Classroom activities are frequently graded as oral work.

GRADES are computed based on four factors:

30% oral work/quizzes

20% written work

40% projects/testing

10% homework (100 points at the end of a quarter, but I will check it every class period)

Homework is for YOU and not for ME (I already know Spanish and 4 other languages too)

Academic Growth Grades will be given at the end of every quarter to students who mastered their learning, improved their skills, and challenged themselves to be better life long learners. If a person fails a given assignment, test, work etc., but by the next or third time the student achieved the learning of that subject the student grade will not be averaged, but modified according to the Academic Growth of each individual.

ASSIGNMENT BOOK or ABLE PROGRAM: Refer to the Student Handbook for rules about absence, cheating, lack of material for class work, plagiarism, tardiness, and other such general rules. They will be enforced

This includes computer generated translation. (It is also cheating)

HELP is available every day from 3:15 PM to 3:45 PM. in my classroom You can call my cell phone (students will have it) or my home (students will have it) from 5PM to 8 PM., at least - 3 days before a project is due, and at least a day before homework is due. Much help is available on line at my Web-site. (http://webpages.charter.net/maestraedna/index.html). You can e-mail me at home at (students will have my e-mail too) or  better yet at school efeldmanschultz@janesville.k12.wi.us (Same rule as for phone help). No later calls or e-mail!

FOOD: please feel free to send snacks for all students; they are permitted to eat in my classroom.

MATERIALS: You should have your materials with you for each class. These include notebook, assignments, and other materials that you are told to bring regularly. Color pencils, or markers, and stick glue can be left in a bag in the classroom if they are marked with the student’s name.

MISSED WORK: It is your responsibility to learn what work was missed due to absence and to make arrangements for completing this work.

Syllabus/Projects and Homework: Can be seen at http://www.schoolnotes.com/53545/edna.html

NOTEBOOKS or FOLDERS: You should have a notebook or folder for exclusive use in this class. You will write many in-class assignments in this notebook or folder. Notebooks or folders will be checked. Is school policy to bring your Assignment Book to every class!

NEATNESS counts. This includes handwriting as well as avoiding a spill of tomato sauce on your work. If you can't take pride in your work, why bother to offer it as a representation of yourself?

ORAL WORK cannot always be made up. Excessive absence and lack of regular participation may cause oral grade to suffer.

PRESENTATIONS: You should be prepared to make presentations when due. There will be not too many opportunities to make up presentations at later times.

PUNCTUATION & SPELLING: You are expected to use proper punctuation and spelling in all work. Punctuation was invented for a communicative reason. Use it! Check your spelling!

TESTS, QUIZZES & INCOMPLETE GRADES: Tests, quizzes and incomplete work must be made up within the prescribed limits set forth in the Assignment Book.

Fiestas: During the year we will celebrate culturally many Hispanic/Latin holidays, your contributions of food, plates, cups, silverware and napkins will be greatly appreciated.

These holidays are:

- Day of the Dead (Día de los muertos)- Nov 1st or 2nd (A or B days class).

- Christmas (Navidad) December 21st-22nd.

- Carnaval-  February 27th -28th.

- Cinco de Mayo – 4th-5th.
