Clock of Life

Hampton, CT
Planted by Irish Tinker

(Before heading out you may want to check my web site for traditional grave symbols.)

The Clock of Life is wound but once
And no one hath the power
To tell just when the hands will stop
At late or early hour

Now is the only time you own
Live, love, toil with will,
Place no faith in tomorrow, for
The clock may be still.

From the intersection of Rte 6 and Rte 97 take 97 through the village of Hampton.

Turn right onto Hammond Hill and follow it’s twists and turns. Pass over a small metal bridge and turn into the driveway on the left. Park immediately along the avenue of tall evergreens, maples, and oaks.

Walk straight ahead and climb the hill passed Austin the jewel of the sea. Just passed you will find Daniel Dennison and family who seem to hold the place of honor.

Take a reading of 280* and walk 2 rows to 2 "protected" graves.

Take a reading of 235* and find a stones with symbols of renewed life.

Standing at the larger of the 2 take 6 paces to a couple who both missed the Independence of their country by just a few short months dying just 4 days apart!

Take a reading of 265* and find a stone with the symbol of mortality and remembrance.

Take a reading of 235* and find a smaller stone expressing remembrance with great grief for a son.

Take a reading of 250* and go to 3 stones with poetic epitaphs one beautifully symbolizing morality and remembrance.

Look west to stone standing tall proudly expressing eternal life.

Take a reading of 270* to another jewel of the sea dated 1886.

There is an outlet to a path by mother & father.

Once on the path turn right. Follow until you see Ashley Avery and a small sign that they were Christian. To the left of path in a hole under the 1st brown stone (you should not move the brown stone) you will find the clock of life!
