If Wishes Were Horses...

Coventry, CT
Planted by Irish Tinker & Freedom Fox on 5/4/03
Rated: Nice level trail

From Hale Homestead turn right onto South Street. At rotary take the first right continuing on South Street. Follow until you see the fire house on your right. Turn onto Judd Rd. Follow to the stop sign. Turn right & park on the side of the road. Walk straight ahead. You will see the brown "No vehicles" sign. Walk passed.

If Wishes Were Horses...

If wishes were horses,
Beggars would ride.
If turnips were watches,
I would wear one on my side.
And if "ifs" and "ands"
Were pots and pans,
There’d be no work for tinkers!

There will be horse pastures on each side. Soon you will see a trail on the right, turn here. Both sides are posted at this point but the trail is open! You will come to a clearing on your right and to your left is an opening in which you can watch sheep grazing on a hill. We watched two little black lambs prancing about while the bigger sheep grazed away. Continue straight. The trail begins to curve right. Just passed a left turn-off you will see a large bolder that starts a stonewall. Step over the small spring brook (easy crossing by the log laying across the brook although I would not step on the log) Walk to the opposite side of the wall. Head down the wall to the birch growing out of stones that must have been a part of the wall at one time. Beside it, in the wall, under a flat fallen stone is your treasure! A few feet away is a great log to rest and stamp in on!

Enjoy and please re-hide well.
