Main Page #1 Teddy Eastford, CT Natchaug Forest which has a brown wooden sign and is on the east side of route 198 in Eastford, 5 ½ miles from the intersection of routes 198 and 6 in Chaplin and 3 miles south of route 44 and 198 intersection. Go over the bridge. Start up the winding hill. There is a pull off to the RIGHT that 3 or 4 cars can park at. The trail is right in front of the parking spots. In November 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt was hunting in Mississippi. The day was unsuccessful so members of the hunting party brought a small bear cub to the camp for the president to shoot. He refused because the animal did not have a chance to defend itself. Clifford K. Berryman, cartoonist for the Washington Post drew and published the image which this stamp is based on. Soon the entire country was snuggling with teddy bears. Follow the clues to Teddy Bear Picnic. After stamping in follow the stream you just crossed over, up stream. You will see two spiky trees laying across the stream making beautiful falls. Continue straight a couple of yards and you will see a second stream right in front of you. Follow the stream in front of you down stream (to the right) until you see a tree growing out of the bank that looks like a squid. Look to your right and see a tree leaning on another tree. Between you and the leaning tree is a tree with a rock at it’s foot. Behind it in the large hole is the #1 Teddy Box. Enjoy! Rehide Well! Before you set out, please read the
