Kim Wildner is 37 years old and has been married to her husband, Dave, for 18 years. They have one homeborn daughter.
Wildner's path to Better Birth began with her own struggle to conceive. Synchronicity led her to midwifery through her research into holistic woman-care. It was the best of integrated care, traditional medicine and the midwifery model, that ultimately resulted in a beautiful baby girl, Chelsea Raine.
Knowing that she may only ever have one child, she and her husband researched their pregnancy and birthing options very carefully. They would only have one chance to grow a healthy baby and wanted the safest birth possible. The evidence convinced them that homebirth with a midwife was their own best choice.
While her reading had convinced her analytical side that women needed to know much more about safe childbearing options, it was her own birth that convinced her heart that she might want to be part of the process. While her own birth wasn't a comfortable experience, it was blissful and empowering. It was a right-of-passage that marked the transition from Maiden to Mother.
Thinking she was on her way to becoming a midwife, Wildner became a childbirth educator with The Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators,(A.L.A.C.E.) while staying home with her nursling. During that time she also completed her state's midwifery organization's midwifery curriculum. In 1993 she passed the North American Registry of Midwives (N.A.R.M.) exam for entry level midwifery knowledge. She gained experience over the years by accepting an apprenticeship, doing labor support for hospital couples, and embarking on a clinical experience trip to Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston where she acted as a primary birth attendant.
In 2000, Kim found Mongan Method HypnoBirthing(R), which then led to certification as a hypnotherapist, specialising, of course, in birth related hypnotherapy applications.
It was this work that created the paradigm shift resulting in Mother's Intention.
When Wildner isn't eating, breathing and sleeping birth, she enjoys knitting, counted crossstitch, reading, beading and outdoor activities with her family.
She looks forward to the time when we call all have glowingly healthful pregnancies, gentle births and peaceful postpartum periods. She hopes she can serve women in a capacity that helps this become reality.
