Calling this Neha's Birthday is
MisleadingClickety Clickety, clack. This, my six readers know, is
my mantra for beginning aimless writing. Clickety, clickety, clack. The
sound of fingers on keyboard keys, and their retraction back to rest.
Just the sound of it makes me happy. In fact, it gets the ball rolling.
I think the hardest part about writing is getting started. When you
finally commit, and you get a little ebb, push again, and with a little
clickety mantra, you get it going into a flow.
Of course I've got music going. It's KROQ
online, since Birmingham radio has gotten hopeless. In an effort to
makes this site an actual web, here's the link to what I wrote about
KROQ before. It strikes me that some of the same
guys from my college days are still DJing for KROQ. Jed the Fish is
spinning right now, and he was there 15 years ago when I was in college
at UC Irvine. That seems like an
eternity for a DJ lifespan. I guess one keeps moving up until one hits a
satisfactory market that suits you. L.A. or New York would probably be
the two biggest audiences, so unless he has a hankering for going east,
Jed'll stay.
Now playing is The Kill, 30 Seconds to Mars, from the disc
Beautiful Lie. The Kill, Chemical Romance, The Kaiser Chiefs, and
then throw in Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorite alternative bands
out there right now. Music indeed, makes my life a better place to be.
What else can I tell you? I got a nice email from Mary Dykes, who is
the Administrative Director for the
Owens Foundation for Wildlife
Conservation, Inc. She happened upon my brief blog on
Secrets of the Savanna, and thought
enough to introduce herself. The conservation program that Mark and
Delia Owens began in North Luangwa expanded to include providing rural
health care, and she sent me information about their health provision
programs. So cool! This is one of the great joys of having a web site.
You put yourself out there, and on serendipitous occasions, someone
takes a similar tack in life, and you make a friend. It's like fishing,
without expectations. And once in a while there's a pleasant catch.
Breaking across the wave, I got an invitation to a celebration for
Neha Shah's 25th birthday coming up...So in honor of her celebrating a
quarter-century on planet Earth, I've added a photo of her and Stew-dog,
dancing to the sounds of bluegrass played by none other than our (UASOM's)
very own Al Babcock's band. How great is that? Thanks to Ryan Corrick
for his quick loan of a camera at just the right moment. I do love being
a part of the class of 2008 at UAB's School of Medicine. They are the
family that I have in addition to the families I have, and I consider it
a privilege to be among their members.
Well, I just tried to upload, and Charter's site has failed again. I
wonder if it's because I have totally maxed out my limit of webspace
they offer with a standard cable subscription. I think they don't
monitor it, and I further think there's something (like a huge podcast)
that might be kicking out my updating of late. Then again, it got
through earlier...Look here for my parallel site. It's getting less fun
to publish of late because of the lack of instant gratification
of seeing the "Web Site Published Successfully!" message...
<sigh>
