Minnesota Physician Assistant Professional Issues
MAPA's Bill for the 2009 Legislative Session
MAPA has introduced a technical ammendment bill to update the PA practice act, Minnesota statute 147A. With support from the American Academy of PAs (AAPA), extensive preparation has been done with practicing PAs, physician colleagues and organizations, regulators, and other stakeholders to prepare the bill. note: Article 5 of the bill (pp. 17 - 46) contains the revisions to the PA statute
The principal elements of the bill include:
- PA “registration” is changed to “licensure.”
- Alternate supervising physicians may be named in supporting documents which include signed affirmation of the assumption of the responsibility for supervision.
- The number of PAs to be supervised is increased to five.
- The disaster provision is modified.
- The locum tenens and temporary registration provisions are deleted.
- The optional delegation of authority to issue a 72 hr emergency admission is specified.
- The duties of the Physician Assistant Advisory Council are expanded.
